Technology

Our systems use flow-based battery architecture, designed for the long-duration applications where lithium-ion falls short.

Why long-duration storage

The grid increasingly needs storage that can discharge for four hours or more. Renewable generation creates multi-hour gaps between supply and demand. Short-duration batteries help with frequency and brief peaks, but they cannot carry load through extended periods of low generation or high demand. Long-duration storage fills that gap.

Why flow-based design

Flow batteries store energy in liquid electrolyte held in external tanks, separate from the cell stacks that convert energy. This architecture decouples energy capacity from power output. Adding more hours of storage means adding more electrolyte and larger tanks, not redesigning the power system. The chemistry supports tens of thousands of charge-discharge cycles with minimal degradation, making it well suited for daily cycling over a 20-plus year asset life.

How the system works on the grid

Each installation connects to the grid through power conversion equipment that manages charging, discharging, and power quality. The dispatch system monitors grid conditions, market signals, and asset health in real time. It decides when to charge, when to discharge, and at what rate, optimizing across revenue streams such as energy arbitrage, capacity, and ancillary services while respecting operational constraints and equipment limits.

Projects

We are actively developing long-duration storage projects and seeking partners with the right sites, loads, and interconnection positions.

Seeking

Sites

Substations, industrial parcels, and utility-adjacent land with grid access and permitting potential.

Seeking

Offtake

Utilities, load-serving entities, and large commercial loads interested in long-duration capacity or energy contracts.

Seeking

Interconnection-ready projects

Developers with queue positions or approved interconnection agreements looking for a storage technology and operations partner.

If you have a site, a load, or an interconnection position that could benefit from long-duration storage, we would like to hear from you. We evaluate every opportunity against our safety, technical, and commercial criteria before committing resources.

Frequently Asked Questions

What project sizes do you target?
We typically work on projects ranging from 1 MW to 100+ MW, with four or more hours of storage duration. The minimum viable project depends on site-specific economics and interconnection costs.
How long does development take?
A typical project takes 12 to 24 months from initial site review through commissioning. Interconnection timelines and permitting are usually the longest lead items. We can often compress the schedule for sites with existing interconnection agreements.
How do you make money from dispatch?
Storage systems earn revenue from multiple streams: energy arbitrage (buy low, sell high), capacity payments, ancillary services (frequency regulation, spinning reserves), and demand charge reduction. Our dispatch system optimizes across these streams in real time based on market conditions and asset constraints.
How do you handle safety and permitting?
Flow-based battery systems use aqueous electrolytes that are non-flammable and non-explosive, which simplifies fire safety and permitting. We prepare all safety documentation, coordinate with local authorities having jurisdiction, and design systems to meet or exceed applicable codes and standards.
What data do you need to size a system?
At minimum: site address, electrical interconnection details (voltage, capacity), and either a load profile or generation profile at 15-minute or hourly intervals. If you have interconnection study results or queue position information, that accelerates the process significantly.
Do you offer ownership options?
Yes. We can structure projects as developer-owned (where we own and operate the asset and sell services), customer-owned (where we develop, build, and hand over operations), or joint ventures. The right structure depends on your goals, capital availability, and risk preferences.
